Netsweeper Frequently Asked Questions

Netsweeper Frequently Asked Questions

What is Netsweeper?

Netsweeper leverages advanced artificial intelligence to enhance safety for schools and students. By delivering real-time analysis of online content, swift mass deployment capabilities, and customizable reporting, supports schools and districts in achieving their safety goals.

How is Netsweeper licensed?

Our pricing model is simple and based on the number of student devices you plan to include. For more information on how to purchase licenses, or for contact information for our sales team, please visit Contact Us

After completing my trial and purchasing licenses, will I need to reconfigure or redeploy Netsweeper?

No. When you purchase licenses, we apply those licenses to your trial account and convert it to a fully licensed account.

Can I deploy Netsweeper to only certain students instead of the entire school?

Yes. When deploying the Netsweeper browser extension for Chromebooks through the Google Workspace Admin console, you can select a specific organizational unit (OU) or sub-OU. This allows the extension to be deployed only to student user accounts within that OU, rather than to the entire school.

For deploying Netsweeper on Windows or macOS, we recommend using your preferred application deployment software to target the appropriate student devices.

Can Netsweeper be installed on a device that already has another Lenovo Software product installed, such as LanSchool Air or LanSchool Classic?

Yes. Netsweeper, LanSchool Air (our cloud version) and LanSchool Classic (our locally hosted version) can run simultaneously on the same student devices, including Chromebooks, Windows, and macOS devices.

Does Netsweeper require on onsite server?

No, Netsweeper is primarily cloud-based, requiring only an extension or agent installed locally on student devices.

However, an on-premises version of Netsweeper is also available. If you're interested, please reach out to your Lenovo Representative.

Is Google Workspace for Education/Enterprise required?

Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) and access to the Google Admin console are required if students are using Chromebooks. It is not required for students using Windows or macOS devices.

For Chromebooks, the Netsweeper extension must be deployed and configured through the Google Admin console to ensure it is force-installed when students log in.
Info
Using Netsweeper with Chromebooks signed in through consumer Gmail accounts is not supported.

Does Netsweeper work in BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) environments?

Yes. Students using Chromebooks must log in with their school-issued Google account to receive the Netsweeper extension configured within Google Admin.

For students using Windows or macOS devices, the Netsweeper agent must be installed on their devices. Students will need administrator permissions on their devices to install the client themselves.

Can filtering be restricted to occur during school hours only?

Yes, you can set the hours during which Netsweeper actively filters content using a Group's Policies Calendar.

Are student devices being filtered while the devices are at home?

By default, devices are monitored 24/7. One exception is filtering based on time or calendar settings. Please refer to the previous question and answer for more information.
